Patent-pending system maximizes device recoverability, reduces turnaround time, and scales reverse logistics for OEMs, retailers, and service providers
Schenectady, NY – September 16, 2025 — Contec, a leading provider of reverse logistics and lifecycle management services for connected technology, today announced the launch of OmniTest™, a breakthrough automated testing platform purpose-built for diagnosing and recirculating connected devices such as mesh routers, 5G gateways, and optical networking equipment. Already deployed in Contec’s own high-volume processing centers, OmniTest delivers unmatched speed, accuracy, and scalability for OEMs, service providers, and supply chain partners.
OmniTest leverages Contec’s proprietary, patent-pending technology to test multiple devices simultaneously with minimal human intervention. Its advanced robotic system combines precision mechanical actuation, LED behavior recognition, and API-driven parametric testing—delivering a 50% reduction in turnaround time for device testing and processing.
“OmniTest represents a step-change in how connected devices can be tested, diagnosed, and returned to the supply chain,” said Rajeev Tiwari, Chief Technology Officer at Contec. “We engineered this platform from the ground up to serve today’s complex, multivendor environments—where speed, scalability, and cost-efficiency are non-negotiable. With OmniTest, our customers gain a platform that reduces factory burden, recaptures value, and strengthens end-user satisfaction.”
Built to serve a broad ecosystem of partners—including OEMs such as eero, Netgear, and TP-Link; retailers like Amazon and Best Buy; broadband service providers; and 3PLs—OmniTest accommodates a wide range of mesh network and broadband devices, with full support for Wi-Fi 5, 6, and 7 standards. The system is capable of measuring latency, jitter, and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR), performing WAN/LAN compliance tests, and resetting devices to OEM specifications—all without requiring engineering staff onsite.
Flexible Models for Engagement
Contec offers two key ways for customers to take advantage of OmniTest:
- Contec-Managed Processing – Customers send devices to Contec’s reverse logistics facilities, where OmniTest is already operational and staffed by trained Contec technicians. This is the preferred model for speed and efficiency.
- Onsite “Box-in-a-Box” Deployment – Contec installs a compact OmniTest system (just 20’x20′) directly in a customer’s facility, operated either by Contec staff or customer personnel. This option brings testing closer to source without disrupting existing workflows.
Driving Device Value, Reducing Waste
OmniTest is the latest innovation in Contec’s mission to transform connected technology supply chains. By enabling rapid, precise identification of device faults—and distinguishing true failures from recoverable units—OmniTest drastically improves recirculation rates and reduces unnecessary waste.
“Our goal has always been to help customers maximize the lifetime value of their connected devices,” said Tiwari. “With OmniTest, we’re not just speeding up diagnostics—we’re giving OEMs and service providers a new lens into field failure data, enabling better design, fewer returns, and a more sustainable product lifecycle.”
OmniTest has already proven its impact with major broadband MSOs like WOW!, helping to process thousands of units weekly with turnaround times under 48 hours.
